Volunteers

The definition of a volunteer: a person who voluntarily offers himself or herself for a service or undertaking or a person who performs a service willingly and without pay.

We are constantly in need of Volunteers. Volunteers at Hancock County Senior Services help get the newsletters out in a timely manner, they help with our bingo, they ride in the parades, man tables at business expo’s and health fairs. They are dedicated and loyal. If you are interested in volunteering, please call our office, we can put you on our call list.

Some of our volunteers also join the R.S.V.P. (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program,) which is part of Senior Corps, a network of National Service Programs that provide Older Americans the opportunity to apply their life experience to meeting community needs. It is funded in part by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Federal Government Agency whose purpose is to help people over 55.

RSVP focuses on finding retired, semi- retired or fully employed individuals, age 55 or older, to volunteer in assignments that match their skills and most importantly their interests, RSVP volunteers serve in a diverse range of nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and faith – based groups, as well as volunteering right from their home, (eg. making quilts for fundraisers, crocheting lap robes/slippers for nursing homes, or performing a variety of outreach activities).

RSVP enables Senior Citizens to put their skills and life experiences to work in their community, become part of a growing family and caring and talented individuals, and make a difference in their community.  Call us to register for R.S.V.P.
